About Emilia

Emilia Huvinen, MD, PhD, is a gynecologist, obesity physician, researcher and Associate Professor at the University of Helsinki. Her work sits at the intersection of women’s health and obesity, with a particular focus on how reproductive and hormonal transitions shape metabolic health across the female life course.

Her academic work has included gestational diabetes, obesity, reproductive health and menopause, and she is actively involved in international scientific collaborations and medical education.

Alongside clinical medicine and research, Emilia is an international speaker and advisor, translating rapidly evolving science into practical, compassionate care. She has a particular interest in challenging weight stigma and improving understanding of the biological drivers of obesity.

She is the author of Hungry Genes? Understanding Obesity Without Blame, written to make modern obesity science accessible to people living with obesity, their families and anyone interested in understanding why weight is far more complex than willpower.

Based in Finland, Emilia works internationally across research, education, advisory work and public communication.
